Cape Town Charisma

The V & A (Victoria & Alfred) Waterfront area of Cape Town proved to be modern and vibrant.  I was impressed to see that many of the buildings of days gone by had been preserved - the Clock Tower being a perfect example.

A couple of seals were caught lazing in the sunshine

Whilst canoeists set off on their own voyage of discovery

A trip to Simonstown provided an opportunity to see the Boulders Penguin Colony - what little posers they turned out to be!

And the scenery was stunning everywhere one looked

A sad reminder of the days of old was the upturned engine block of RMS Athens which sank in the Great Gale of 1865.  The only survivor from this ship was one of the pigs which managed to swim ashore in the height of the gale.

My only regret was that I did not have enough time in which to visit the historic City Centre and the Company's Gardens.  But then one cannot do everything.  Thankfully I did manage to find an optician who sold "clip-on" sunshades so they will do until I get back home.  He told me that he had heard the story of glasses being whisked from tourists heads at The Cape on many, many occasions so I told him he needed to put a big sign up in his window "Lost your Specs at The Cape? Clip on shades sold here".
